Bangalore, December 20, 2022: Setting a precedent for other students, a Grade 10 student of Canadian International School (CIS), Hemal, and his friends raised over Rs 11,000 for the Government Lower Primary School, Gantiganahalli, Yelahanka recently. Moved by the plight of the children, Hemal decided that the students had to be provided with some essential tools of education.

The CIS students organized a friendly basketball match and a bake sale to raise funds for stationery items for 30 students of the school. They donated 150 notebooks, 30 geometry boxes, and 30 crayon boxes to the children of the government school.

“It is important to have awareness about government school students, who may not have access to all the facilities that others do. I interacted with government school students and realized that they needed basic education tools. They are children of daily wage workers, etc. and come from economically weaker backgrounds. They would not have adequate resources,” explains Hemal, a CIS student, speaking on the initiative. “We then decided to raise funds and distribute education essentials to them. One of the goals of life should be to reduce disparity among students and give them equal space, too.”

Commenting on the children’s vision, Shweta Sastri, Managing Director of Canadian International School in Bangalore, said: “The students at CIS understand the value of helping communities around us that are in need. Their approach to learning incorporates values like equality, compassion, and empathy. Understanding how to take the initiative and follow through to completion is a skill that is encouraged at CIS. We always celebrate such activities and are proud of our students for making an impact.”
