New Delhi, November 19, 2017:Macquarie University, one of Australia’s top 10 Universities has signed an agreement today with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, Punjab to collaborate over a wide range of academic activities.

The MoU will support a range of activities that will strengthen collaboration between the institutions, including student and faculty exchange, joint research collaboration and explore joint GIAN-VAJRA courses where overseas Indians can work with Indian institutions to deepen their engagement in research and development programs, especially in science and technology.

Macquarie University and IIT Ropar have identified bio-medical engineering (imaging, sensing and instrumentation), telecommunications (wireless technologies, networking, optical devices and communication, MIMO systems and satellite communication), mechatronics and robotics, power electronics and water and environmental science as key research areas.

Speaking on the signing, Professor Barbara Messerle, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University, Australia said: “The agreement between Macquarie and IIT Ropar will serve to be a great example of the collaborative cooperation that is possible between international institutions. With this strategic partnership in place, we believe that both institutions will benefit greatly, and will allow the creation of new ideas, lead to further innovation in science and technology and encourage students to broaden their horizons.”



“IIT Ropar sees the importance of building academic alliances with world universities as an important step towards its internationalisation. Being a millennium university, we have made significant outreach with universities across the world. Our MoU with Macquarie University is an important milestone for us.
