New Delhi, March, 2016: The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai and Citi India, jointly invite applications for the 8th edition of the ‘Citi-NCPA Scholarship for Advanced Training in Hindustani Music’ under the aegis of the ‘Citi-NCPA Guru Shishya Program’ aimed at the preservation and propagation of Hindustani music to the next generation.

This year, the scholarship aims to support nine scholars in the age group of 18 to 30 (as off 1st March 2016) through a year-long (2016-2017) scholarship for advanced training in Hindustani Music in Vocals (Khayal, Dhrupad) and Melody Instruments (sitar, sarod, violin, flute, harmonium etc.).

Through its longstanding partnership, both Citi and NCPA are deeply committed to preserve, nurture and promote India’s rich cultural heritage, keeping the Guru-Shishya tradition at the heart of each of its four joint programs:
i. The ‘Citi-NCPA Guru-Shishya program’ that supports eminent gurus to nurture disciples in the discipline of the musical art form they specialize in.
ii. The ‘Citi-NCPA Music Scholarship’ that supports deserving students of music in their pursuit of Hindustani classical music
iii. The ‘Citi-NCPA Aadi Anant’ traveling music festival that offers the community at large an opportunity to experience Indian classical music maestros as well as upcoming musicians on a single stage.
iv. The ‘Citi-NCPA Music for Schools’ program aimed at nurturing an interest in music amongst young children

Application process:

Candidates are required to submit a written application in an envelope marked ‘Citi – NCPA Scholarship for Hindustani Music’, to the National Centre for the Performing Arts, NCPA Marg, Nariman Point, Mumbai 400021 or mail to ncpascholarships@gmail.com on or before March 31, 2016. The application must contain details regarding the individual’s name, date of birth, address, contact number/alternate contact number, professional qualification, email ID, music teachers/gurus, number of years of training and details of achievements/prizes/scholarships and performances, amongst other noteworthy details. The shortlisted candidates will be informed via email or telephone. They will be required to appear for an audition at the NCPA, Mumbai in the month of April- May 2016.

The value of each of the scholarships will be INR 90,000 for the period of one year. Further, the scholarship will be provided to the students in monetary form to train under their respective teachers/institutions. The decision of the NCPA Selection Committee will be final.

Eligibility criteria:

Students who are benefiting from any other NCPA scholarship in the year 2016-17 are not eligible to apply. Also, applicants should not be working as professional musicians.
