New Delhi, November 10, 2019: Over 100 students and delegates from various prominent colleges & universities of the National Capital Region like Jamia Milia Islamia, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Amity University, Shiv Nadar, Thapar University, and many more gathered to debate ‘The implementation of SDG 13 with special emphasis on moving towards a plastic free future’ at the two day ISBF Model United Nations Conference 2019 (MUN), held at the Indian School of Business and Finance (ISBF), New Delhi.
ISBF MUN is an annual conference that simulates the working of the United Nations, to raise student awareness and knowledge towards pressing issues of international importance.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day conference, Professor (Dr.) G.L. Tayal, Dean Academics, ISBF, stated that the ISBF MUN has gathered popularity in Delhi over the last few years and the increased exposure gives students an edge in future career pursuits. He said, “I appreciate and admire the ISBF MUN Cell for addressing issues of international importance in different parts of the world.” Alluding to the topics under discussion, he added, “Environmental change is now a growing concern globally and India, being one of the largest countries, holds a major responsibility to ensure sustainable development. Programmes like ISBF MUN could go a long way in educating our future leaders about the pressing concerns of international importance.”
Out of the four committees formed this year at the ISBF MUN, The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) committee focused towards the elimination of ‘Single Use Plastic’, and ‘Sustainable use of other forms of plastic’, keeping in mind the global rally towards a plastic-free environment.
As for the other three committees, The United Nations Security Council committee reviewed the principals of self-defense and the use of force in the digital era, while during the All India Political Parties Meet a thorough discussion took place on the federal structure of India with a special emphasis on the states of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The fourth committee, the United Nations General Assembly, focused on renewing emphasis on global non-proliferation attempts with an emphasis on the Korean peninsula.
The title sponsor for ISBF MUN 2019 was Navitas capital, while Koncept Hyundai, Young & Fab and Blue N Greys were the automobile partners, publishing partners and clothing partners, respectively.
ISBF is one of the select few Featured Teaching Institutions of LSE in the world, and also enjoys University of London’s Affiliate Centre status, the highest recognition accorded to teaching institutions by the university. This ensures that ISBF students receive a rigorous, application-oriented and global education, which is relevant to local needs. Many of them transfer to foreign universities in second year of undergraduate study, go on to prestigious institutions for higher studies, or secure placements in India or overseas with leading multinational corporations.
ISBF was founded in 2006 with the vision of delivering world‐class education in India. Its Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes – in the areas of Economics, Finance, Business, Accounting and Management – all receive academic direction from LSE, and students receive a University of London degree upon graduating. They are taught by an expert and highly qualified group of faculty members at ISBF, and also see deep engagement from LSE academicians, who train ISBF’s teachers as well as lecture students, apart from setting and grading the final examinations of ISBF students.
