06 December, 2019, Bengaluru: Nabendu Paul, a scholar of IIM Bangalore’s Doctoral Programme (PhD) from the Finance and Accounting area, has won the Best Paper Award at the management doctoral colloquium of Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) COSMAR 2019, which was held from November 28 to 29, 2019.

The paper presented by him is from his ongoing PhD work titled ‘Institutional Factors and Demand for external finance – A multi-country study’. His dissertation advisory committee consists of IIMB’s professor’s Dr M Jayadev (Chair, Finance & Accounting area), Dr Chetan Subramanian (from the Economics & Social Sciences area) and Dr Abhinav Anand (from the Finance & Accounting area). The award included a cash prize of INR 5000.

This year, 83 abstracts were initially submitted by management research scholars from the IIMs, IITs, NITs, and other reputed universities and institutions. After a double-blind peer review, 40 abstracts were selected for submission of full paper.

The full papers were again double-blind peer reviewed and finally 25 papers were selected for presentation at COSMAR 2019. Out of these 25 papers, eight papers were from the Finance & Accounting area. These eight presenters were from IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIT Madras (two presenters), IIT Kanpur, MNIT Jaipur, Pondicherry University and University of Kerala.

Presenters from other specialized areas were from IIM Lucknow, IIT Hyderabad, CUSAT Trivandrum, NITK Surathkal and other premier institutes. A total of four papers received the Best Paper Award on November 29, 2019. These papers were presented by students from IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, IIM Bangalore and NITK Surathkal. Nabendu’s Paper shared the third Best Paper Award (a joint award) with a student from NITK Surathkal.
