Established in 2007 during a time of significant economic and cultural change in India, the Balwant Sheth School of Architecture (BSSA) aimed to train architects capable of responding to the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. With its focus on engaging with multiple disciplines, fostering research-oriented practice, and challenging traditional design notions, BSSA has become a pioneer in architectural education.

NMIMS BSSA is committed to providing students with the best possible education and preparing them to become leaders in the field of architecture. The school boasts a highly experienced and dedicated faculty who are passionate about teaching and research. Students also benefit from opportunities to engage with industry professionals, develop their skills through internships and live projects, and foster critical thinking to creatively address new challenges.

The 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program at BSSA is recognized by the Council of Architecture (COA) and is designed to promote new modes of teaching and learning in architecture. Going beyond the conventional approach, the program explores fields ranging from socio-cultural studies to management studies, broadening architecture and design opportunities. By providing studio learning, interactive sessions with industry leaders, and case studies, the program offers a comprehensive view of the field. BSSA also boasts a dedicated placement cell to ensure students are well-prepared for their careers.

To be eligible for admission to Balwant Sheth School of Architecture (BSSA), candidates must have cleared the 10+2 examination with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics, along with a 50% aggregate score in the same examination. Additionally, they need to score at least 70 out of 200 marks on the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). The registration process involves filling out admission forms and completing other formalities, after which the school declares a merit list based on individual scores.

Online Internship with Certification

In 2018, BSSA introduced the Master in Architecture degree program, extending the Bachelor’s program for an additional two years. This program emphasizes advanced design experimentation in contemporary architecture and urban environments, considering the increasing rate of urbanization. It aims to train professionals in creating innovative design strategies that construct humane and creatively challenging environments, fostering engaged societies. The program offers digital prototyping and fabrication workshops, an international study program, and live and interactive sessions with renowned industry leaders.

To be eligible for the Master’s program, students must have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree courses or any equivalent course recognized by the Council of Architecture. The selection process involves evaluating the candidate’s portfolio of work and qualifying technical requirements, followed by a personal interview with a committee. The candidate’s academic record, portfolio of works, and performance in the interview determine their selection for the M.Arch program. There is no age limit for admission to final-year students.

Dr. Kaiwan Mehta, Dean of Balwant Sheth School of Architecture, stated, “At BSSA, we provide our students with a platform to engage with contemporary architectural practice and explore the complex relationships between design, technology, culture, and the environment. Architects need to engage in debates about the future of societies and citizenship while understanding the struggles between various factors. By doing so, architects can build their capacity to interpret the needs of our times and translate them into form, space, material, construction, drawings, and sites, enriching the world for all of humanity.”
