September 21, New Delhi: Start-up communities in India are set to get a boost as a delegation from the University of Queensland (UQ), Australian visits Delhi to introduce its globally acclaimed ideation program for students keen on start-ups. The UQ Australian Idea Hub program, which is open to students from all study areas, runs for six weeks and provides students with the skills and knowledge to conceive a start-up. UQ will be holding a special session on September 26 at Le Meridien Hotel, Janpath, New Delhi between 2 pm and 6 pm for prospective students and their families.

UQ Idea Hub Director Nimrod Klayman said“More than twenty students in the UQ Idea Hub program have worked alongside CEOs and innovation gurus in a recently conducted four-week Mobility Program.”The program connected students to local and international start-up communities, he said.

UQ Master of Business graduate from Mumbai, Visakh Vignesh, said that the program connected him to a vast network of driven and successful business leaders. “You get to meet people working for big companies, like Philips, Starbucks and a bunch of other companies and also get an opportunity to meet with successful investors and accelerator programs, Visakh said.
After two years of operation, the UQ Idea Hub program has graduated eleven cohorts of students from its hands-on program. In addition to the program based at UQ’s St Lucia campus, students at UQ can participate in one-off events such as the Weekend of Start-ups, which links students to leaders in Queensland’s thriving start-up community.

Mr Klayman said that the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the state of Queensland is rapidly expanding, with support from local and state government as well as private industry. The Idea Hub is just one way that UQ students are prepared for today’s changing workforce, by learning lateral thinking and networking skills that are essential to success in self-starter and traditional careers.
