Game On! JSID’s Indie Games Day Draws 120+ Game Enthusiasts and Industry Experts

New Delhi, October 23rd, 2024: JS Institute of Design, a pioneering design institute in New Delhi, successfully concluded Indie Games Day on October 19, 2024. This year it was held JSID campus for the first time. This exciting event brought together 120 industry professionals and 45 school students, to celebrate the thriving Indian game design and development community.

The event commenced with a welcome keynote by Gurpreet Singh Matharoo, GameMaker’s representative, who emphasized the importance of community engagement. Aamir Khan, founder of GameDev India, talked about the platform’s mission to promote Indian game developers since 2009.

Emphasising the importance of creativity, Nien Siao, Dean at JS Institute of Design stated, “We’re proud to provide a platform where creativity meets innovation. Our UG course in Game Art and Design empowers students to harness their talents, and events like Indie Games Day showcase their exceptional skills. Indie Games Day demonstrates our commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the game design industry.By organizing this event, we aim to provide a dynamic and collaborative platform for indie game developers and designers to unleash their designing genius and display their work.”

The event’s lineup of industry experts delivered captivating talks, offering unique perspectives on game design and development. Aswin Behera kicked off the series with “Elevating the Mundane: Finding Adventures in the Routine,” revealing innovative techniques to transform everyday experiences into thrilling game narratives.

Game development veterans Mridul Pancholi and Judhajit Sarkar shared expert insights on crucial aspects of game design. Pancholi’s talk, “Game Feel: What It Is and How to Implement It,” highlighted the delicate balance between complexity and simplicity in creating immersive player experiences. Sarkar, meanwhile, demonstrated how indie developers can leverage AI to streamline game development and effectively market their products.

In an exploration of cultural authenticity in game design, Anirudh Bansal presented “Creating an Indian Cyberpunk World.” This visionary talk showcased the potential for India’s rich cultural heritage to inspire immersive, futuristic environments.

Jatin Bhatt wrapped up the series with a comprehensive overview of “Design Process in Game Development,” emphasizing the importance of iterative design, player feedback, and continuous refinement in crafting polished gaming experiences.

Through these engaging talks, attendees gained valuable knowledge, inspiration, and networking opportunities, strengthening the social spirit within the game design community.

Neelabh Satsangi, a UG program student in UI/UX Design, emerged victorious, claiming the XP-Pen Tablet sponsored by XP-Pen. The jury, comprising Gurpreet Singh Matharoo and Aamir Khan, praised the exceptional quality of submissions.

The number of students studying game design in India has reportedly grown by 60% over the last 5 years. Events like Indie Games Day nurture creative talent, empower game developers and designers to refine their skills, and bring their vision to life.

The event’s games showcase allowed participants to exhibit their upcoming or in-progress projects, receiving valuable feedback from experts. This interactive platform facilitated meaningful connections between designers, developers, and industry professionals.
