This is the story of a professor, who successfully upskilled himself to become a UI Developer. Nistala Chaitanya was born and brought up in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and had been a meritorious student since his childhood. After completing schooling in 2012, he took up B.Tech in Electronics and Communications. He further completed his M.Tech in Radar and Microwave Engineering. After completing his M.Tech, he got a job as an Assistant Professor and became one of the top 5 faculty members of his department in a few years. While being interested in teaching, Chaitanya had also developed an interest in Product Development and Programming.

He decided to expand his capabilities beyond teaching and began learning more about Information Technology. However, coming from a non-computer science background, he felt that his options to learn coding would be limited. This is when he came across Masai School in a newspaper advertisement and was impressed by the military-style learning, the curriculum, and the schedule. He then joined the program to learn UI development and successfully completed the same. Chaitanya sat for his placements after finishing his course at Masai School and despite setbacks due to the pandemic, and he was able to bag a job in two months as a UI Developer.

The possibility of completing one’s education at zero upfront fees was highly beneficial for Chaitanya. The Income-Sharing Agreement (ISA) at Masai School enables students to enroll in the coding programs without having to pay any upfront tuition fee. Further, Masai School follows a military-style 9–9–6 training model that is challenging and keeps the students engaged and motivated throughout the program.

Speaking about his experience, Nistala Chaitanya said, “At Masai School, we had soft skills training for one hour every day. Masai School not only focuses on the academic excellence of their students but on their holistic development. We were taught to be presentable in every way – be it going for demo labs or participating in Hackathons. Coming from a non-computer science background, I was initially sceptical of entering into the world of coding. However, the CEO of Masai School, Mr.Prateek Shukla told me that all it matters to be a successful coder is confidence and the ability to learn new skills. I am extremely thankful to Masai School for instilling in me the required skills and for helping me throughout my journey at Masai School.”

Prateek Shukla, CEO & Co-founder, Masai School said, “Learning a new skill requires personal commitment and determination. Most companies today provide equal or in some cases more weightage to aspirants having relevant job skills, versus a plain educational degree.  The need for constant skilling and upskilling is prevalent in the industry. While there are multiple courses available for students, there exists a huge fee structure which many can’t afford. To solve this challenge, Masai School follows the Income-Sharing Agreement (ISA)-based education model. The ISA at Masai School enables students to enroll in the coding programs without having to pay any upfront tuition fee. Only after they find a job that pays them above Rs. 5 LPA, would Masai activate monthly ISA payments, capped at 15 percent of monthly income for a maximum of 36 months. We strongly believe that any aspiring student should be able to choose their careers over having to compromise upon them.

At present, Masai School has graduated 400+ students across 14 batches, with a placement rate of over 96.2% and an average CTC of INR 7.5 LPA. The company has enabled student placements with more than 700 of its hiring partners which include the likes of top tech and product companies such as NoBroker, ShareChat, Paytm, Samsung, Airmeet, Meesho, among many others.

Currently, courses in Web Development & UI/UX Design are offered by Masai School, and Data Analytics, Product Management and more programs will be launched over the next few months. Masai School’s coding programs and the ISA model have helped many students achieve their IT dreams.
