On 25^th of August, 2018 the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology hosted their 7^th Convocation .It is the time when graduands become graduates with the degree scrolls in their hands. The smiles with a shade of pride on the faces of the students say a lot about their accomplishments. Such smiles were seen at the 7th Annual Convocation of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, where more than 200 students from varied engineering disciplines were awarded degrees and medals. The Director of IIIT-D, Prof. Pankaj Jalote with all IIIT-D students, alumni, and faculty warmly welcomed the Chief Guest Shri Rajan Anandan, Vice President, Google India and South East Asia, Shri Anil Baijal, Chancellor & Honorable Lt. Governor of Delhi, and Shri Kiran Karnik, Chairman, Board of Governors.

The occasion was special not only for the graduates who worked hard to earn the reputed degree, but it also turned out to be a remarkable event for IIIT-D as it celebrated the milestones achieved during the 10-year-old journey. This year, the statistics account for 6 Ph.D. degrees, 122 B.Tech degrees, and 97M.Tech degrees and 1 dual degree.

Recognizing the efforts and endeavors of students during their academic course, IIIT-Delhi honors them with several medals and awards apart from the honorary degrees.

IIIT-D had seen a commendable growth since its inception—from a newly formed institute offering traditional B.Tech courses in Computer Science and in Electronics and Communication to now offering 4 interdisciplinary B.Tech courses in in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Social Science, Computer Science and Design and Computer Science and Biosciences; which started this year . The institute has a specialized and general Mtech courses, this year the institute added a specialized MTech course in artificial intelligence.

The institute is a great model of establishing research culture and cultivate students to pursue their ideas. To support this the institute established its first industry-funded research center for Artificial Intelligence sponsored by Infosys and recently they have also established another research centre “ centre for design and new media” supported by TCS, which made them one of the very few to have two industry-funded research centres in the campus.

Equipped with such resources and expert faculty, IIIT-D strengthens the capabilities of its students and to encourage them to go for higher studies before going for a career. More than 17 students from this year’s graduating batch and 13 alumni are proceeding for higher studies in University of John Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, University of California, University of Washington and Brigham Young etc.

Recently, it had signed a MoU with the University of Buffalo, the State University of New York for a collaborative Ph.D. programme. With the University of Buffalo, IIIT-D will offer a joint-dual Ph.D. programme to allow doctoral students to perform coordinated research studies at both the institutions. With this, the institute becomes one of the fastest-emerging institutes which offer world-class education and training in technical courses.

Also, the institute has shown an impressive placement record. Received 467 total offers out of which 156 were from A+ companies(offering an average compensation of more than 10 Lakhs). The average salary this year was around 15.24 lakhs with the highest being 40 Lakhs in Indian recruitments and 71 lakhs in overseas recruitments.

The new Phase II campus which was recently inaugurated by Honorable Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi is now fully operational. It has added more spaces for classes, labs, faculty offices, and residential areas giving the institute now a capacity of 3000 students.

On this, Prof. Pankaj Jalote, Director, IIIT-D, commented “I am very proud to note that the institute will be completing ten years. The Institute is entering a new phase with solid foundations in place. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all my colleagues whose effort and support has made this all happen. In particular, my sincere thanks to our Chairman, Mr. Karnik who has been guiding the past 10 years, and members of the Board for their direction, to the Government for their continued support for infrastructure. And, of course, to my faculty and staff colleagues for their effort and dedication to achieve the vision of excellence in research and education that we have for the Institute so we can serve Delhi and the Nation.”IIIT-D’s 7th Convocation Ceremony was punctuated with smiles, happiness, pride, and a big round of applause.
