IIM Bangalore’s NSRCEL hosts Social Start-up Santhe

10th May, 2019, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore’s innovation and entrepreneurship hub NSRCEL in collaboration with Michael & Susan Dell Foundation hosted ‘Social Start-up Santhe’ today. The event included workshops, a panel discussion by eminent leaders in the social space, peer-to-peer sessions and other activities. The keynote address at the event was delivered by Sameer Garde, President, Cisco India and SAARC.

IIM Bangalore provided a dedicated stall space for social ventures called ‘Suite of Services’ which offered services relevant to legal, technological, HR and branding areas to other organizations in the social sector.

The panel discussion comprised of eminent speakers like Deep Mukherjee, CEO, CII National Committee on Sports & Head, Sports Development, Star India; Shweta Sharma Kukreja, MD, Central Square Foundation; Pradeep Nair, Regional Director, Ford Foundation; Sudha Srinivasan, CEO, N/Core; Asutosh Tyagi, Head, Social Finance India; Saras Agarwal, Principal, Bharat Innovation Fund and Ingrid Srinath, Founder Director, Centre for Social impact and Philanthropy, Ashoka University. At the panel discussion, Sudha Srinivasan: CEO, N/Core said, “Technology has changed over the span of 5 years like booking cabs/ tickets through an online app and the same has been fueled by our existing entrepreneurs. But unfortunately, same didn’t happen in case of social space. Our main focus area should be to build an enterprise who look into disrupt areas of work and technology and can be utilized for demographic specific.”

Mr. Deep Mukherjee : CEO, CII National Committee on sports & Head, Sports Development, Star India said, “Sports Development is one of the initiatives that we should all focus in our country. Every school should have sports mandatory in their curriculum. Sports is not only good fitness but overall development of the child.”

Shaveta Sharma– MD, Central Square Foundation said, “India has the largest education system in the country, but we still lack in terms of basic learning. Through school India foundation we are working to transform the school education system in India to improve learning outcomes of all children. To achieve our goal and make learning as our priority, we need to work with the government that can build a developed eco system for our kids.” 

Additionally, NSRCEL Social Ventures Incubation Programme, IIMB in collaboration with Michael & Susan Dell Foundation celebrated the graduation of its first batch of 8 social ventures at the event. Initially funded at INR 18 lakhs, the programme fostered cross leaning and sharing of best practices through the mix of programmes and other incubatees under its fold. After an 18-month-long incubation journey that saw its inception on September 15, 2017, the first batch of eight social ventures graduated today.
