29 December, 2019: The eleventh IMR Doctoral Conference, IMRDC 2019-20, was held on 27th & 28th December 2019, at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Every year IMRDC brings together doctoral students from across the country for two days of intense academic discussions with senior academics and researchers, and aims at publication-oriented development of doctoral research work.

The keynote lecture at the conference was delivered by Prof. James Foster, Oliver T. Carr Professor of International Affairs and Professor of Economics at the George Washington University, on ‘The Role of Inequality in Poverty Measurement’.

‘From Paper to Publication’
One of the avowed aims of the IMR Doctoral Conference is to help take doctoral research work towards eventual publication. As an effort in this direction, a workshop titled, ‘From Paper to Publication’, was held, led by Prof. Rejie George, IIMB, and Prof. Sanchari Roy, King’s College, London. The two well published researchers shared their knowledge about the publication journey, including some handy tips to negotiate the journal submission and review process. While Professor Rejie George has published in top journals in the Strategy area including Strategic Management Journal and Journal of International Business Studies, Professor Roy has published in Economic Journal and Journal of Development Economics, top journals in the Economics area.

The IMR Doctoral Conference has established itself as the pre-eminent doctoral colloquium in Management and allied disciplines through the rigour of its processes and its ‘one discussant per paper’ format. IMRDC 2019-20 received 90 competitive submissions from doctoral students in India and abroad, from leading institutes and universities including the IIMs, the IITs, ISI, among others. The submissions were taken through a rigorous three-step selection process, reviewed by the Conference Chairs and a Review Committee comprising well-published domain experts from across the world. Of the 90 papers, 10 papers were selected for presentation at the conference, where dedicated discussants gave the presenters comments for enhancing their work.
