Dev Joshi (Plays Baalveer in Sony SAB’s Baalveer Returns)

Labour Day

Labour Day is really important and it is a day when the entire industry takes a break and celebrates the people who put in all their efforts to have the entire entertainment industry up and running. We don’t realize that in our daily lives are heavily depended on these people, their contribution is highly commendable. On the sets as well, the spot dada, make-up dada, light dada and every one to me is like a family. They all come from different parts of India and I always enjoy learning new dialects and languages from them.

I feel as artists we have to acknowledge them as we are the first witness of their dedication and help them, especially during these unprecedented times. I have a wish that someday on Labour Day, I want to take all of them on a fun trip to thank them for their immense hard work and to ensure they get the much-needed break.

Aditya Ranvijay (Plays Bhaymaar in Sony SAB’s Baalveer Returns)

Labour Day

My father was an army officer and mother was a college principal and having working parents I have grown up with several house-helps and cooks at our home for our essential day-to-day needs. I have practically grown up playing with them. Even my maternal grandparents had more than a dozen people who helped with the work on the fields. I have seen their hard work and their significance in our daily life. In the entertainment industry, a lot of work depends on the people who work seamlessly behind the camera to help and support those who are actually on your screens.

I witness all the workers of the lighting department always carry such heavy equipment with a smile. In my opinion, these people are a backbone of our industry and no show can be completed without their help and dedication. On Labour Day, I would like to thank all the people who have made life easier with their effort and would urge every Indian to acknowledge their contribution to our lives.

Gulfam Khan (Plays Nazneen Chachi in Sony SAB’s Aladdin: Naam Toh Suna Hoga)

I think that labourers are the foundation of our society, whether it is the house helps, cleaning staff, the cooks, spot boys on the set or those working at construction sites and factories. But unfortunately, they are the ones who get the least credit. This Labour Day, I request everyone to appreciate the work they do, because that will definitely bring happiness on their face. On the sets of any show/movie, the spot boys, make-up artists, light men, etc play an extremely crucial role in making the shoot happen with ease.

1st May is also my wedding anniversary and we decide to get married on this day as it is the day that appreciates the strongest foundation of the society and is also celebrated as World Labour Day. We had specially invited all the workers and helpers that we had worked with for so many years like our drivers, house helps, etc. So, I just hope this day and every other day, people learn to respect this most important group of our society and we all try to bring in some Khushiyon Wali Feeling for them.

Smita Singh (Plays Durga in Sony SAB’s Tera Kya Hoga Alia)

Our lives are dependent on the people of labour class to a large extent. During these difficult times as well, they are the people who are working for our safety. So, salute to them for their services and commitment. I have high regards for all these people and even in the entertainment industry, they are like vital organs of a human body that help it function effectively.

On Labour Day, I would like to ask every Indian, to respect and acknowledge the efforts of the Labour class. Let’s make this world a happier place for them too!

Sharmilee Raj (Plays Baal Pari in Sony SAB’s Baalveer Returns)

I feel celebrating Labour Day is a wonderful and an important practice that is going on around the world for many years now. It is a way of thanking them for all their services that they do for us as well as the country. I have been blessed to have been brought up in a family where we treated our house helps or drivers as a part of our family and nothing less. These critical times that we are currently facing have taught the world their importance more than ever as they are working for our convenience, keeping their safety in mind.

In our daily shoot lives as well, we come across more than 100 people on the set from lightmen, make-up artist, Spot boys, Hairdressers, dress men and many others, working with dedication for a particular show and the industry. Without their help, going through a smooth shoot process is impossible. Since I spend most of my time in a day with them, on the set of Baalveer Returns, they have become like a family to me and we usually eat food together, crack jokes and have fun.

So, a lot of appreciation and respect for the Labour class, from the bottom of my heart.
