Bengaluru, 18th July, 2023: School of Economics, NMIMS Bengaluru, conducted a unique inauguration program, Deeksharambh, for its first-year batch of B.Sc Economics program at the Bannerghatta campus in Bangalore. Marking the beginning of an enriching academic journey for the selected students of the 2023-2026 batch. There has been a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in the B.Sc Economics program from the academic year 2023-24 as compared to 2022-23.
The B.Sc Economics program has been carefully designed to provide students with a strong foundation in economics and equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in this dynamic field. The program aims to foster analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of economic principles.
The inauguration ceremony featured Mr. Vivek V Nayak as the esteemed chief guest. Mr. Nayak is an accomplished senior supply chain management professional with over sixteen years of experience in all aspects of the supply chain. Currently serving as the Associate Director at Biocon Limited, Bangalore, Mr. Nayak brings a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise to the event. Talking at the ceremony, he said, “Being a part of the inauguration ceremony at NMIMS Bengaluru and addressing the enthusiastic batch of B.Sc Economics students was truly an honor. I am confident that this program will equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the field of economics. It is heartening to see such a vibrant and dedicated academic community committed to nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow.”
Following the inauguration ceremony, the students participated in an engaging orientation program that aimed to familiarize them with the university, its resources, and the B.Sc Economics program.
Some of the key sessions during the orientation program included a Campus Tour & Treasure Hunt where students had the opportunity to explore the campus and participate in a fun-filled treasure hunt, encouraging them to familiarize themselves with the university’s facilities and surroundings. International Education Specialists from IDP conducted a session to enlighten students about the various international opportunities and collaborations available in the field of economics.
Deciphering the Ordinary Business of Life: Economics and its Myriad Enquiries saw Professors Tanaya Majumder, Anand Prakash, Indu Sukumar, and Dr. Prerona Baruah deliver a session aimed at unravelling the diverse aspects of economics and its relevance in everyday life.
Students also had the opportunity to interact with the counselor, Ms. Gitanjana Paul Choudhury, who conducted an engaging session that was curated to provide guidance and support related to academic and personal well-being. An interaction session was conducted for students to engage with their peers and build connections within the B.Sc Economics program.
The orientation program also included sessions on academic administration, examinations, library and databases, placements, and international linkages. These sessions aimed to equip students with the necessary information and resources to navigate their academic journey successfully.
The students also got the opportunity to have a virtual meet up session with alumni of the School of Economics, Mr. Vidhit Arora (2019 – 22 batch), who shared his experiences of his student days at the campus.
The unique orientation program concluded with a vote of thanks.
