JK Lakshmipat University Jaipur hosts Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022

Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell to provide students a platform to solve pressing real life problems of the government and society. It is the world’s biggest open innovation model. Smart India Hackathon 2020 is jointly organized by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Persistent Systems, and i4c. Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR) are the media partners of the Smart India Hackathon 2022, while Shell and AWS are the sponsoring partners of the national event.

In its 5th edition, this year, JK Lakshmipat University Jaipur (JKLU), has been selected as one of 75 Nodal Centers across the country and only one of three in Rajasthan, by AICTE and the Ministry of Education, to host the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon. This is a 2-day event commencing from 8.00 am on 25th August and culminating at 8.00 pm on 26th August 2022. 

JKLU is hosting the Software edition of SIH, in which 30 teams, having over 200 participants, are competing for 7 Problem Statements from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Each problem statement has a winning amount of Rs 1 lakh. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has been interacting with the student participants of the Smart India Hackathon every year since its inception and will interact with the students this year too during the hackathon.

At the Inauguration of the event, Dr Dheeraj Sanghi, Vice Chancellor, JKLU welcomed dignitaries and participants and said that it was a proud moment for the university to be amongst the chosen few to host such a prestigious event. He told the visiting students, “You already have shown that your preliminary solution was very good. I really look forward to the next 36 hours to see what kind of solutions emerge from the problems you have been working on. I am sure that some of you will come up with such innovative solutions that can be converted into startups and you can be job creators rather than job seekers at the end of your academic program”.

In her inaugural address, Chief Guest, Ms Binita Thakur, IPS, AD Police, Police HQ, Jaipur said “I am very happy to see so many girls in the group and the change which has happened, because we think differently. Girls are naturally good at multitasking.” She further added, “Whatever innovation we do should have an element of sustainability”.

While charging up the young students, Guest of Honour, Mr Yogesh Agarwal, Global Head, Learning & Development, Wipro mentioned, “Whenever you see a problem statement, explore it and empathize with the stakeholders and then redefine your problem statements. Empathy is the mother of Innovation.” He spoke about 4 D’s. “Do what is on topmost priority, Defer things which are not on priority, Delegate particular aspects to the team member with the greatest strength in that area, and Delete the aspects which are not in the scope of the challenge”.

The program also had Mr Deepak Choubey, Nodal Centre Head from the Ministry of Education to oversee the event. Dr Amit Sinhal, In-Charge of JKLU Nodal Centre delivered the Vote of Thanks after which all teams went to start the grueling 36 hour grand finale of the hackathon, where they would be evaluated in various stages until the winners are announced. 
The Valedictory session of the grand finale will have Ms Mugdha Sinha, IAS, Secretary to Government of Rajasthan, Department of Science and Technology, as the Chief Guest and Dr Mohan Lal Goel, Managing Director, Robo MQ as the Guest of Honour. Dr Puneet Sharma, Anchor Doordarshan and Media Advisor to SIH 2022 will be the Special Guest at the hackathon.
