Bengaluru, 5 March 2025 – The inaugural cohort from University of Wollongong (UOW) India has completed an intensive five-day immersive program at UOW’s Dubai campus, offering students a comprehensive blend of industry exposure, and international networking opportunities beyond traditional classroom learning.
The immersive experience included interactions with UOW Dubai faculty and leadership. Students also engaged with industry leaders including sustainability experts from Deloitte, AI and Web3 specialists, and prominent FinTech pioneers. Notable sessions featured Dr. Mohan Guruswamy from the World Free Zone Organization and Mr. Izmir Khan from Crypto.com
Through specialised workshops and interactive panel discussions, students explored cutting-edge topics including sustainability frameworks, predictive analytics applications, and cryptocurrency regulatory environments. Complementing these technical sessions were practical professional development modules focused on CV enhancement and business pitch refinement.
A program highlight included an exclusive session with Dr. Mohan Guruswamy, Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Free Zone Organization, who provided students with comprehensive insights into global financial frameworks and emerging market trends.
Beyond academic engagement, the visit featured a competitive element where students showcased their innovation skills before a panel of AI and Web3 industry leaders, with top performers receiving cash awards and potential internship opportunities. The networking component proved particularly valuable, with many students establishing professional connections and several initiating project discussions with industry experts.
Dr Rajsee Joshi Shah, Assistant Professor of Financial Technology at UOW India, who accompanied the delegation said the visit represented a truly transformative experience for both our students and faculty.
“The opportunity to engage directly with both UOW Dubai academia and global industry leaders effectively bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application,” Dr Shah said.
“Discussions with leading economists and finance experts at the Dubai International Finance Centre Academy provided invaluable insights into emerging trends, including analyses of policy impacts globally.
“This engagement between UOW India and UOW Dubai has established foundations for future research collaborations, joint projects, and industry partnerships that will significantly benefit our student community.”
Dr Kiran Trivedi, Associate Professor, Computing at UOW India, who also accompanied the delegation, said the visit provided students with a worldclass learning experience.
“This visit provided our students with a multidimensional learning experience allowing them to engage in meaningful discussions on the evolving contours of global finance,” Dr Trivedi said.
“Beyond academic insights, they built valuable industry connections, with many networking on LinkedIn to foster long-term collaborations.
“It was particularly exciting to see an industry leader take interest in our students’ work, inviting them to share their MVP for potential development. Our engagement with UOW Dubai’s engineering and computer science departments has set the stage for future academic and industry partnerships.”
Master of FinTech student Cerin Elsa Joji, recipient of the inaugural FinTech in Women Scholarship from UOW India, participated in the Dubai immersive experience.
“Coming from an engineering background at an Indian institute where industry interactions were limited, this experience provided direct access to global leaders, facilitated insightful discussions, and created networking opportunities that have substantially strengthened my professional connections,” Cerin said.
