The lockdown has especially difficult for the daily wage workers who have nothing in terms of savings to survive such a long-term lockdown. Many had to resort to walk hundreds of kilometres to their homes to avoid starvation. In spite of the individual and collective efforts by philanthropists in the country, the problem still persists, and the reason for it is the sheer number of migrant daily wage workers in our country. At this juncture, it is essential for us to come together and support these people who have been supporting our economy for such a long time.

Unfortunately, on the morning of 26th May, a huge fire was reported in the same basti, which has burnt down hundreds of jhuggis, leaving the residents homeless with no belongings to call their own. Although no casualties have been reported as of now, needless to say, this situation has been very cruel to these residents.

Addressing the matter, Dr Geetanjali Chopra, founder and spokesperson, Wishes & Blessings, said, “To help the people who have lost their homes and their belongings because of the fire, we are putting together immediate relief packs that will provide necessary assistance to the victims during these tumultuous times. These are tough times, and they have been toughest for the underprivileged people. Those of us who can do something to make things better for these people have to step to the occasion. Even if we take care of one person besides our family, we’d collectively be able to help millions. Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.
