Delhi, 24 February 2025: XLRI Delhi-NCR and its Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusive Leadership (CGEIL), in collaboration with the British High Commission New Delhi, Chevening Alumni, and Oxford University colleagues, successfully hosted ‘NextGen Women in STEM – Building Tomorrow’s Leaders’ education event on 21st February 2025.
CGEIL has been founded to shape policy, guide actions, and support individuals, firms, and governments in enabling a more equitable and just society As a leader in promoting gender inclusivity and leadership development, XLRI remains committed to fostering equitable opportunities for women in STEM. This initiative brought together over 250 young women from rural areas and tier 2 and 3 cities, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and mentorship needed to excel in STEM careers.
The event featured distinguished Chevening alumni from academia, industry, and policy sectors, who provided valuable insights into the rapidly evolving landscape of science and technology. Key sessions focused on artificial intelligence, climate change, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and leadership, offering participants a comprehensive understanding of emerging opportunities in STEM fields. Institutions Group, Asia and Pacific, International Finance Corporation, Ayushi Mishra COO and Co-Founder, Drona Maps, Bharati Ghosh, National Spokesperson of BJP and Member of National Executive Committee of BJP shared their expertise and experiences, enriching discussions and inspiring the participants.
Speaking about the event, Fr. K.S. Casimir, Director of XLRI Delhi-NCR, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in bridging the gender gap in STEM fields. He stated, “At XLRI, we are committed to fostering an environment that encourages women to pursue and excel in STEM careers. Through the Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusive Leadership, we continue to drive research, education, and field projects aimed at empowering women. This event was a critical step toward ensuring that young women have the mentorship and resources they need to thrive in the evolving technological landscape.”
Dr. John Hoffmire, Director, Center of Business and Poverty, and Research Associate at the Oxford Centre for Mutual and Co-owned Business, University of Oxford, emphasized the significance of empowering women in STEM, stating, “Investing in women’s education and leadership in STEM is not just about equality, it is about driving innovation, economic growth, and societal progress. Initiatives like this create pathways for young women to thrive in the industry.”
Supriya Chawla, Head, Chevening Scholarships, British High Commission, highlighted the importance of mentorship and opportunities for young women in STEM, stating, “Empowering young women around the world with the right skills, education, and networks is crucial for building a more inclusive and innovative future. Through initiatives like NextGen Women in STEM, the UK aims to provide aspiring leaders with the support and inspiration needed to break barriers and excel in these vital fields.”
The event provided a platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration, allowing participants to engage directly with thought leaders and industry experts who had studied in the UK on a Chevening award. Sessions on women’s leadership, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship offered young women the guidance needed to navigate challenges and build successful careers in STEM.
