Kainaat Arif, a Class X student of Amity International School, YVC, Lucknow, has been selected in YUVA: Prime Minister’s scheme for mentoring Young Authors, to commemorate India’s 75 years of Independence.
Expressing pleasure on this occasion, Dr. Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Schools, stated, “Amity students have always shown exemplary performance at various national and international competitions and have made us proud. Our teachers constantly encourage our students to enhance their skills and realize their true potential. We are certain that our students will keep making us proud in future too through their commendable achievements in various fields.”
Delighted at this achievement, Mrs. Sakshi Gautam Mishra, Principal, Amity International School, YVC, Lucknow, said, “It is yet another glorious moment for us as our student has been selected in this prestigious competition. It is laudable that our student has a keen literary interest at such a young age and showcased her immense talent by being chosen amongst 75 authors.”
The applicants were asked to choose between fiction or non-fiction for their entry and Kainaat chose the former. The criteria required submission of 5000-word(max) manuscript on the tales of the Indian national struggle. Kainaat’s manuscript is titled, ’The Tarsier,’’ named after the main character and his namesake- the Southeast Asian primate. The story is based on “The Delhi conspiracy case” -an assassination attempt at the viceroy of India in the early 1900s. Kainaat’s 3000-word entry reimagines the attempted murder of Lord Hardinge through the eyes of an eleven-year-old waiter. The story features a bespectacled young boy with an unusual name and even more unusual thirst for knowledge. Tarshi, the protagonist is clever and astute, he understands the problems his country faces with more depth than most adults.

This scheme will help not only develop a stream of writers who can write on a spectrum of subjects to promote Indian heritage, culture and knowledge, but also provide a window to the aspiring youth to articulate themselves in their mother tongue and represent India at an international level. This programme is in tune with Hon’ble PM’s vision of Global Citizen and establish India as a Vishwa Guru.
