Birla Institute of Technology and Science at Pilani (BITS, Pilani) is the top private technological Institution in India declared as a deemed to be university since 1964. BITS, Pilani has been accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.45 on a four point scale after visiting its Pilani, K.K Birla Goa & Hyderabad campuses in 2016.
Late Dr. K.K. Birla, who took over as the Chairman in 1983, realized the need for providing top class higher education facility to greater number of promising students in science and technology, and under his patronage, BITS Pilani started expanding by establishing three new campuses – BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus in the year 2000, BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus in the year 2004 and BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus in the year 2008.

BITS Pilani is a preferred destination to recruit from, for a large number of companies. We feel validated in the quality of education and experience we provide to our students when a majority of our students are successfully placed on campus. Each of our programmes are designed to give our students a balanced education with theory as well as practical knowledge. In addition, they are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities as it helps them develop soft skills and develop well rounded personalities. Centres
Every major seat of learning and education across the world is engaged in activities beyond the classroom and work towards becoming powerhouses of research and innovation. Students and faculty from various departments work in collaboration with each other and with the government and industry to carry out research in various areas. We, at BITS Pilani are engaged in several such programmes through centres instituted for the purpose.
Our centres are involved in varied activities ranging from Software Development and Robotics to Women’s studies and Desert Development Technologies.
Facilities
The library has room for up to 8,000 students, offers 738 open access study places and 246 open-access IT workstations. As well as the books and periodicals you expect, it is home to computing facilities for students.

Our collections contain over half a million items, including qround 3,000 current journal titles with over 20,000 electronic resources, including databases, journals and ebooks. Also a substantial media (CD and DVD) collection.
The library is searchable via the library catalogue. But it is not only our library you will have access to – as a BITS Pilani student you can use a network of other libraries via our membership.
