India courses skills up on Artificial Intelligence & Data Science in 2017
- Coursera reveals list of top 10 most popular courses across domains including technology and business

New Delhi – Coursera, the global leader in online education and learning, today announced the list of the ’10 Most Popular Courses in India – 2017’, based on the average daily enrollments by Indian learners over the past year.
Coursera with 2.6 million Indian learners out of 30 million globally, has seen massive uptake for courses related to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. 2017’s 10 most popular courses list indicate that cutting-edge tech skills continue to be the most sought after skills. Indian learners showed great appetite for high quality, career-relevant courses like Machine Learning, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, Introduction to Data Science, Programming for Everybody. They featured as the most popular courses this year, following the trends from 2016.

Artificial intelligence dominated the list of top courses this year, taking three of the spots in top 10 list, including the Machine Learning and Deep Learning courses taught by co-founder Andrew Ng and a Machine Learning course from the University of Toronto. Blockchain has also burst onto the scene, putting Princeton’s Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency course at number seven on the list. ‘Learning How to Learn’ also remained extremely popular among people of all ages.
Interestingly the popular Business oriented courses list featured a mix of courses like Financial Markets, Design Thinking for Innovation, Marketing in the Digital World along with Successful Negotiation and Introduction to Public Speaking.

Coursera for Business, an enterprise platform for workforce development, has seen a high demand for courses around Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Data Science. The enterprise platform has noted an increase in enrollments for courses like Leadership, Design Thinking and Operations Strategy & Execution that help enterprises develop the future-ready workforce.
Talking about the trends, Raghav Gupta, India Country Director, Coursera said, “As the emergence of automation threatens jobs, increasingly individual learners as well as enterprises both will look for adding new skills. The trends we saw in 2017 will continue in 2018 as well. While tech skills will remain at the core, Blockchain, business, data analytics, leadership, innovation and strategy courses will garner greater interest over the next year.”
