The tech company said it will give the World Health Organization and global government agencies a total of $250 million in ad grants — up from the $25 million — to share information on how to battle the spread of the virus, CEO Sundar Pichai said on Friday. Another $340 million in Google ad credits will be available to small and mediumsized businesses whose accounts have been active over the past year, Pichai said, with an additional $20 million earmarked for announcements on relief funds and support for small businesses. The two biggest charitable gifts across the entire globe in response to COVID-19, have come from Google and Cisco, which donated $800 million and $220 million, respectively. It’s not like only tech companies are contributing to this epidemic. The third-biggest gift from an American company came via scandal-tarred Wells Fargo, which issued a press release saying its foundation was “accelerating” $175 million in planned giving over the next three months. But only $55 million of that is in additional funds — the other $120 million was repurposed from other planned giving.
