India Meteorological Department, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India is going to install the millennium city’s first Automatic Weather Station (AWS) at The NorthCap University (NCU). The University recently signed a Letter of Agreement (LOA) with Indian Meteorological Department for scientific cooperation and establishment of AWS which will be providing basic meteorological data.

According to IMD, there are about 2000 AWS dotting the entire length and breadth of the country, each costing around Rs 7 lakhs. With increased demand for weather data & products and improving weather and climate services, it was felt that both the organizations should mutually cooperate in the field of environmental monitoring and research.
The meteorological and environmental data will be available for academic and research purposes to help public in general and for general awareness. The University will provide space for installing the AWS in a safe and secure environment. India Meteorological Department will provide necessary meteorological instrument and technical maintenance and guidance for the AWS.
