Oxford University was last week declared the world’s number one university for the third successive year in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Oxford, the only UK University ever to top the international rankings, sustains its position through the outstanding quality of its research, teaching and innovation, said a statement from the varsity.
In the Times Higher Education (THE)’s most recent list of 1,250 universities across the world, there are few surprises regarding the countries represented most.

There are, however, some interesting new additions to the list. Additions that indicate progress taking root in countries that have been affected by conflict or have suffered from a poverty of opportunity – countries like Iraq, Tanzania and Kazakhstan.
Oxford stands out across the board, however what sets it aside from the top-ranked colleges below it, primarily from the US, is its exceptionally international focus, according to Mr. Baty.

The Times Higher rankings area unit delineate because the solely international league table that assesses universities for all their activities, considering teaching, research, citations, business collaboration and international outlook.
“Oxford thrives, not just due to strong levels of research funding, and a remarkably intimate teaching environment, but primarily due to the talent on its campus – and there’s no doubt Oxford is a magnet for talent globally, attracting the brightest and the best students and faculty from all over the world,” Mr. Baty added.
