New Delhi, 1st September 2016: Australian city of Adelaide, part of South Australia is making a concerted effort to woo Indian students through a new initiative by StudyAdelaide, the nodal body that promotes Adelaide as an international study destination.

To attract more students from India and create greater awareness of the benefits of studying in Adelaide, StudyAdelaide has for the first time ever opened its Ambassador for Adelaide program to Indian students offering the winning candidate an all expenses paid study tour of Adelaide to evaluate the opportunities available to bright young students globally here.

Current statistics show that Australia is high on the priority list of Indian students and that Indian students form the second highest foreign students group in Australia. India is the number one source market for the Vocational Education & Training (VET) sector, and third largest source market for the higher education sector. Across all sectors, almost 11% of the 32,089 international students in South Australia in 2015 were from India.

While the overall number of international student enrolments originating from India has continued to grow over the past two years, the sector mix is changing. There is a trend towards an increasing number of higher education enrollments while VET has seen a slowdown indicating the growing image of Australia as a high value education destination.

The overall number of international student enrolments originating from India has continued to grow in the past two years. The most notable movements in student numbers in 2015 occurred in two important sectors; higher education experienced a 25% increase while VET saw a 17.9% decrease in enrolments. The majority of Indian international VET students in South Australia were studying Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas.

Management and Commerce is the most popular study area for Indian higher education students in South Australia, followed by IT, Health and Engineering and Related Technologies. Speaking about the launch of the Ambassador for Adelaide program for India, Karyn Kent, CEO, Study Adelaide said, “Ambassador for Adelaide is a student focused sponsorship that is aimed at generating acknowledgement of the potential of South Australia as a preferred education destination in Australia. We are very excited to open up the competition in India for the first time and are looking forward to a great response from Indian students to our Ambassador for Adelaide competition this year.”

The StudyAdelaide Ambassador for Adelaide is a competition that offers the winning candidate an all flights paid, 4-week study tour of Adelaide with accommodation provided. The competition is currently open only to students from the South Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala and will be held in September 2016.

The competition is being launched on August 11 and runs through to the end of September 2016. The campaign is divided into two parts; the general competition – “watch the video and answer the questions to enter into lucky draw” and then student ambassador recruitment – “submit your reasons and personal details to apply to be an ambassador to win a free study tour to Adelaide”. The entrants will be shortlisted to a hundred finalists who will then be invited to provide a short video speech to be uploaded to YouTube. The lucky finalist will then be interviewed and selected as the winner.
