New Delhi, November 9, 2021: Dharma Life (an initiative of Gajam India) is proud to announce that it has been conferred with the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP) Award 2021, as the winner in the Gender-Responsive Marketplace Category. This category recognizes organizations that have embraced gender lens throughout their value chain. The JAYA platform has been recognized for its efforts in empowering women and helping them take charge of their destiny to bring a positive and transformative difference to the world. JAYA has helped reach over 120,000 women and has trained more than 8,000 in a skilled livelihood. We pledge to keep creating on-ground impact that drives gender-responsive behaviour.

The Jaya Alliance programme sets out to help rural women transcend psychological and cultural barriers, provide interactive learning experiences to build new skill sets and offer access to job and entrepreneurship opportunities. This holistic, peer-driven, personalized approach guides rural women to economic empowerment. It is supported by Ford Foundation, Wheeler Institute for Business and Development, Accenture DACH & UN Women.

Launched worldwide in 2010 by UN Women and UN Global Compact, the WEPs is a holistic set of 7 principles that support businesses to advance gender equality in the workplace, marketplace and community. The UN women 2021 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards focus on inspiring, supporting and recognising the endeavour of businesses that promote gender-inclusive business culture and practices. Aided by the guidance of the Women’s Empowerment Principle, the awards aim at fostering gender equality in Asia-Pacific.

About Dharma Life:

Dharma Life is a social impact organisation (founded in 2009) that is dedicated to poverty alleviation and inclusive progress through rural livelihood creation, women and child-led community development and digital technology. It focuses on improving the quality of life in rural India through an entrepreneurship model that provides rural women with livelihood opportunities and low-income rural households access to socially impactful products and services. Rural entrepreneurs are identified and trained to become social change makers in their villages by addressing the issues of awareness, accessibility, and affordability for social impact products as well as services. These entrepreneurs also drive community development led by women and child empowerment through behaviour change activities.

Dharma Life is addressing key SDGs, with a focus on Gender Equality, Livelihood & Digital Education, Clean Energy & Climate Action, Mental Health & Physical Wellbeing. To counter COVID-19 related challenges, Dharma Life is also increasing its focus on areas like Mental Health, Gender-related violence, livelihood creation, Family Planning and Maternal & Child Nutrition.

To date, Dharma Life has created a network of 17,000+ rural entrepreneurs, more than 75% of which are women entrepreneurs who have reached more than 23 million beneficiaries in 50,000+ villages, across 14 states of India.
