Founding members

Shobhit Bhatnagar is the Co-founder and CEO of Gradeup, a Noida-based competitive exam preparation platform. Under the Edtech platform, Shobhit oversees the integrated marketing and content development features, He is also actively involved in hiring and building talent within the organization. He graduated from IIM Calcutta and was a former Consultant at Ernst & Young. The other of his ventures and experiences are at Opera Solutions, where the procurement of strategy for marketing services of Fortune 100 companies in the financial services sector. He is also a keen writer too and believes in giving equal opportunities to students of not so popular and wealthy cities and towns of India. Since metro city students have access to all the resources in terms of proximity to classes and leading coaching institutions. And the tier 2 and tier 3 city students have no such option of preparing for competitive exams of JEE, NEET, GATE, SSC, and banking. The challenges for such students are thus the biggest hindrance to our education system as a whole. With almost 25 lakh students appearing for JEE and NEET entrance exams, only up to 25 per cent of them can afford the cost of offline coaching classes. The main concerns of providing such services via a startup are because of the reasons and costs of relocating to the metro cities just to have the benefit of studying.

Gradeup is a Noida-based startup, launched in 2015. Shobhit is the founder with Vibhu Bhushan and Sanjeev Kumar being the co-founders. Vibhu, is an engineer and has 13 years of experience in firms like Yahoo, Infoedge and Infosys as a System Engineer etc and is responsible for taking care of product line and development as well as operations in the current role. While Sanjeev looks after the technical and technology-related issues.

The trio of the founders of this second venture got together for another edtech startup GradeStack which was launched in 2013. The startup and venture focused on the creation of mobile-friendly exams. The problem of interactive content was the main aim and goal for catering students to help them prepare for competitive examinations. Though the company was profitable and popular in the markets with funding and investments, it sustains half a million downloads in one year.

Then soon in two years, the trio launched Gradeup, in October 2015 with GradeStack as the parent company. As the company boomed and in the starting phase captured funding of about $7.5 million in a Series A round by Times Internet.

We believe that people prepare better when they prepare together; by questioning, helping, and challenging each other. Hence, at the very core of Gradeup is a community of students and expert mentors,” Shobhit says.
