Popular Initiative
Popular Initiative gives a right to swiss citizens to propose an amendment or addition to the Constitution. It conducts a political debate on a specific issue. In this initiative, a signature of 100,000 voters who agree with the proposal must be collected within 18 months. Sometime, authorities may also organize direct counter with peoples instead of a result.
Optional Initiative
Optional Initiative gives the right to swiss citizens to demand a national wide vote before passing any bill approved by the Federal Assembly. In this referendum, a valid signature of 50,000 citizens required who supports the proposal within 100 days.

Mandatory Referendum
Constitutional amendments that are passed by parliament are known as mandatory Referendum. For passing a mandatory referendum, the authorities will conduct worldwide voting.
