Introduction to 5G Technology

Today I am giving you an introduction to 5G technology. 5G is a breakthrough. It’s being a decade in making, but finally become a reality and is all set to hit the market in 2020. 5G wireless is the 5th Generation of mobile network and evolution from current 4G LTE network with 5G you will see the exponentially fast download and upload speeds.

The time takes devices to connect will drastically decrease with 5G. It is specially designed to fulfil the demands of current technological trends, which leads to large growth in data the Big Data concept and among global connectivity moving towards the Internet of Things. So what’s the major difference between 5G and 4G well I can say speed. In 5G data speed for wireless broadband connection would be around 20Gbps whereas in 4G it is 60 Mbps. Now I hope you can estimate the power of 5G and It is a revolution in the telecom industry.

And that’s just a small sampling of the capabilities of 5G technology! It will also provide various network management features such as Network Slicing using which mobile operators will be able to create multiple virtual networks using a single physical 5G network. 4G LTE was not suitable for mmWave deployment the major difference is of spectrum bands. Unlike LTE, 5G operates on three spectrum bands :

Low-band use in LTE have 1GHz spectrum and have great coverage area and wall penetration.

Mid-band fast speed and low latency than low-band and fail to penetrate buildings.

High-band refers to as mmWave delivers high performance and offer peak speed up to 10Gbps but fail to penetrate walls and use for less coverage.

With this speed, 5G will make our smartphones much smarter than ever before with uniform data rate, low latency and cost per bit which will lead to acceptance of new technologies like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

There are two main components in 5G.

  • Radio Access Network
  • Core Access Network

I am going to discuss its working in my next blog How 5G works? To read similar blogs like Introduction to 5G visit HawksCode and Easyshiksha.
