The students of JML School celebrate STEM Day to acknowledge those who have made significant contributions in the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) every year. This year too, JML School has concentrated on extending curricular knowledge to daily practical applications through the one-of-its-kind virtual event honouring Dr Bhabha’s efforts as a nuclear physicist in the field of Science & Technology.

Commenting on the success of the second virtual version of the STEM event, the Principal of the JML School, Mrs Damayanti Bhattacharya, said, “The STEM exhibition gives us an excellent opportunity to spot, instil and nurture the spark of scientific temperament in young minds. And by paying tribute to Dr Bhabha on his birth anniversary, STEM 2021 aimed to inspire the students by his life and, in turn, encourage them to lead the future in the ever-expanding avenues of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.”

Arpita Agarkar, a STEM coordinator of JML School, added, “The students have been a powerhouse of energy, diligently preparing for the STEM exhibition for a couple of months, and each year, we work together to set newer and higher benchmarks of innovation. It is delightful to see how the exhibition gives them a chance to explore and manifest their inner creativity as well as help them imbibe essential life skills such as teamwork and the ability to solve problems.”

The second online version of the STEM exhibition commenced with an auspicious inauguration where a lamp was lit and alongside, a melodious song, translated and composed, was sung by two JML alumni. An informative short film on Dr. Bhabha’s life created by the students followed this. After the inauguration, the audience was directed to the school’s website – www.jmlschool.org – for live interaction with students presenting their richly insightful projects.

The exhibition witnessed participants brainstorming and conceptualizing a spectrum of creative projects of their hands-on experiences with the practical use of their acquired knowledge. Every innovative project and presentation showcased at the exhibition was created and executed by the participants in-house, with their teacher’s guidance. From primary students proving that vibrations cause sound to secondary students isolating the DNA of a banana; from music related to Math to robotics, this exhibition had it all. Visitors who had come as the audience on the online platform also had the opportunity to ask questions, request demonstrations and clarification of the models
and concepts, as well as play games with the participants, thereby wholly engaging in the exhibition’s scientific culture.
