Patel was born in the Nadiad Kheda region and grew up in a rural province of Gujarat province. He was a successful lawyer. He later organized farmers from Kheda, Borsad, and Bardoli in Gujarat for disobeying the law of violence against the British, becoming one of the most influential leaders in Gujarat. He was elected as the 49th President of the Indian National Congress, organizing the party in the 1934 and 1937 elections while promoting the Quit India Movement.

As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organized efforts to help refugees fleeing the Punjab and Delhi from Pakistan and worked to restore peace. In addition to those states that were part of the British Empire, about 565 states that ruled were exempted from British rule under the Indian Independence Act of 1947. Patel urged almost every province to accept India. His commitment to national unity in the newly independent country was complete and unwavering, earning him the title of “Iron Man of India”. He is also remembered as the “saint of Indian civil servants” for establishing a modern Indian service system. It is also called the “Unifier of India“.
