About Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, popularly known as Sardar, was an official of the Indian government. He has served as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister. He was India’s attorney general, and a major leader of the Indian National Congress who played a key role in the country’s liberation struggle and led its unification into a united, independent nation. He was one of the conservative members of the Indian National Congress. In India and elsewhere, he was commonly referred to as Sardar, meaning “king” in Hindi, Urdu, and Persian. He served as Minister of Home Affairs during the political coup in India and the 1947 Indo-Pakistani War.

Patel was born in the Nadiad Kheda region and grew up in a rural province of Gujarat province. He was a successful lawyer. He later organized farmers from Kheda, Borsad, and Bardoli in Gujarat for disobeying the law of violence against the British, becoming one of the most influential leaders in Gujarat. He was elected as the 49th President of the Indian National Congress, organizing the party in the 1934 and 1937 elections while promoting the Quit India Movement.

As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organized efforts to help refugees fleeing the Punjab and Delhi from Pakistan and worked to restore peace. He led the work of building a united India, successfully uniting the newly independent nation of the British colonial states that formed the Dominion of India. In addition to those states that were part of the British Empire, about 565 states that ruled were exempted from British rule under the Indian Independence Act of 1947. Patel urged almost every province to accept India. His commitment to national unity in the newly independent country was complete and unwavering, earning him the title of “Iron Man of India”. He is also remembered as the “saint of Indian civil servants” for establishing a modern Indian service system. It is also called the “Unifier of India“. Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, was presented to him on 31 October 2018 at about 182 meters.

History

In 2014, the Government of India introduced Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birthday. He is always remembered for his amazing work in the country and, no doubt, worked hard to keep India united. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, in honor of the image of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the launch of the ‘Run For Unity‘ program in New Delhi. A coalition has been formed to disseminate information on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contribution to Indian history.

Significance

According to a statement from the Department of Home Affairs, this day provides “an opportunity to reaffirm the strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the real and potential threats to the unity, integrity, and security of our country”. a diverse nation so it is very important to maintain unity.The Indian government has erected a large statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel near the Narmada River in Gujarat to commemorate the Iron Man of India.

Celebration

In 2019, in Russia’s Ekta Diwas, Narendra Modi hosted the Promise of National Unity at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. He also reviewed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas exhibition presented by various police officers from across the country.

The Sardar Patel National Unity Award seeks to recognize outstanding and inspiring contributions to promote the cause of national unity and integrity and to strengthen India’s strong and cohesive values. On National Unity Day (31st October), the prize will be announced.

On this day, in several schools and colleges, a variety of cultural activities are held including banners, posters, essay competitions, lectures, questionnaires, drawings, debates, etc.
