Adding to the insights, the collaborative endeavour of CREDAI and NSDC can be dated back to 2015, under the PMKVY scheme to train 25000 construction workers in short term skill training program as part of RPL Bridge course training. These trainings, besides boosting the confidence of the construction worker help them in understanding the finer technical details of their job role, resulting in increase in efficiency and decrease in wastage. The aforesaid project ended in 2018. Following the success of the first edition of construction workers training, NSDC has awarded the new target of 20,000.

Briefly elaborating on CREDAI skilling vertical, Mr Satish Magar, President CREDAI National said, “CREDAI members have been at the forefront in extending support for up-skilling of construction workers and CREDAI is the only industry association that has taken up skilling in a big way and has a dedicated team working in the skilling vertical. We strongly believe that we must continue focusing on up-skilling and skilling to be prepared for the post economic slowdown phase and position India as the ‘Skill Capital’ of the world. This way would be better prepared to meet the requirements of skilled workforce. Furthermore, CREDAI also supports Hon’ble PM’s ‘Skill India’ mission.”

CREDAI’s emphasis on up-skilling construction workers can be tied back to the fact that sectors like IT, Retail, Apparel, Hospitality, projected higher demand for skilled workforce in comparison to other sectors and hence garnered maximum support from various Government schemes too. However, some crucial sectors like Construction & Real Estate, Logistics, Agriculture did not get the required attention, as the standard guidelines of skilling and placing youth made it even more challenging in designing skilling / upskilling projects for these sectors.

CREDAI, the apex body of Real Estate Developers in India, understand the challenges of the migrant population and though in a small way has been focusing on skilling this unskilled workforce as per national occupational standards. The Construction & Real Estate Sector at any given point of time employs 40 – 45 Million people, and with the number of people migrating from rural to urban areas in search of livelihood growing every year, an arrangement to train the unskilled is of utmost importance today. The bottom-line of such endeavours is to create the infrastructure required to pace up this rapid urbanization.
