5271 Participants, 520 teams from 15 B-School campuses for Future Group Competition across India slug it out
for a chance to work with Kishore Biyani

Mumbai, October 05, 2016: Ground Zero, one of the biggest Campus competitions conceptualized by Future Group came to an exhilarating end at its Corporate Headquarters in Mumbai on October 3, 2016. In a nail biting finale, Team Stark Zero from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management won the chance to work with Future Group’s Founder & Group CEO, Mr. Kishore Biyani in addition to Pre Placement Offers and cash rewards. The Runner-up Team Strategists from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata received Pre Placement Interview, cash rewards and an opportunity to work on a project with Big Bazaar. Mr. Biyani presented the trophy to the winning team while congratulating the top nine teams on making it to the finish line after a grueling 28-day contest. Members of Future Group’s senior leadership comprising were on the esteemed panel of judges.

Ground Zero was conceptualized to inspire young minds to predict and design the future of retail in India. 5271 students and total of 520 teams from prominent 15 campuses across the country participated in Future Group’s Ground Zero competition. Ground Zero tested the imagination quotient of the teams wherein they had to do design thinking for building futuristic solutions to solve real-world business problems.

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Kishore Biyani, Founder & Group CEO, Future Group says, “All successful businesses need to evolve to stay meaningful and continue to create value for various stakeholders. In order to do that, they need to imagine scenarios and use their left and right side of the brain to do scenario planning. With Ground Zero, we are trying to stimulate the balance of creativity and control in the next generation of business leaders. I am so delighted with the enormous response in the very first year and we will make this competition bigger next year. All the teams had brilliant futuristic solutions, making it tough for us to shortlist for each round.”

Details about the competition:

In order to be a part of the competition, existing students were expected to play individually as an investor or in teams comprising 4-5 members to build futuristic solutions. Registered individuals were given virtual money to invest in right team and win rewards while teams used it as their capital money.

Students were given several dimensions from each of our concept to work upon. These 5271 registered students and 520 teams were supposed to pick up any of our store formats. Students adopted design thinking approach to build prototype solutions imaging the future scenarios.
From a whooping 520 teams only top 30 teams were shortlisted for the National round after a rigorous evaluation by Future Group’s business leaders. The teams had to also attract maximum amount from investors to qualify for the next round.

About 9 teams from these 30 teams made it to finals from which top two teams were rewarded for the best futuristic solution. Other than the winner and runner up for the competition, some of the the other teams from amongst 9 teams were also given PPI & PPO.

Future Group’s leadership team was present to witness the event and ere judge the final teams.
